The Best Stopover For Cruising Sailors In Queensland

Is Mooloolaba the best Stopover in Queensland for Cruising Sailors? As I’ve started with a question, I won’t keep you in suspense, my answer is a resounding yes!

Mooloolaba has so much to offer the cruising sailor either heading North or South. In terms of sailing its location is superb a leisurely day sail from either Morten Bay or north to the Wide Bay Bar.

There a three Marinas to choose from, each with their own advantages depending on what your interests are. Mooloolaba Marina is the first Marina you will encounter on the starboard side after you enter the Mooloolah River and its location is superb. a hundred or so paces from the pearly white sands of Mooloolaba Beach. Mooloolaba Marina is easy walking distance to the Mooloolaba Esplanade with its cosmopolitan range of beachfront restaurants, cafes and retail outlets. Take your choice of fresh and cooked seafood outlets within 100m, a stone’s throw from the trawlers that brought in the ocean’s harvest. Excellent 4G access for your personal internet.Picnic and BBQ Facilities. Fuel available Nearby. Free WIFI at The Yacht Club, which has a great bistro and entertainment most weekends.

Further up the river is the Wharf Marina, right in the heart of Mooloolaba. It’s only a short stroll to the beach or town where you have an amazing choice for restaurants, cafes, pubs and the Mooloolaba Surf Club a great place to enjoy a beverage or two while overlooking the beautiful Mooloolaba Beach. My Coffee recommendation is the Good Bean Café about 80 metres walk from the Wharf.

The third and final Marina is Lawrie’s Marina. Here you can call in to the YOTI Office for a chat and a coffee. Lawrie’s is ideal if you are looking to provision your yacht. Just a three hundred metre walk to a major shopping centre with three supermarkets, banks, post office, most major retail outlets and soon to open an eight-cinema movie complex. Lawrie’s has a variety of onsite tenants who can cater for all your marine requirements including scheduled surveys, repairs and maintenance, anti-fouling, marine painting, shipwrights, mechanical and electrical repairs, mast repairs, riggers, hydraulics, boat covers, marine upholstery, sail makers, chandlery, marine insurance and of course a yacht brokerage!

I sailed into Mooloolaba four years ago and decided to stay…so maybe I’m a little biased.
